Pandora announced today that it will start a 40 hour a month mobile listening cap to non-paying users via the company blog. Pandora founder Tim Westergren wrote that the move would only affect only 4 percent of its user base and users only spend 20 hours in a month across all devices. He also wrote that “Pandora’s per-track royalty rates have increased more than 25% over the last 3 years, including 9% in 2013 alone and are scheduled to increase an additional 16% over the next two years” as he is blaming the record industry for rising licensing cost. The cap won’t affect the desktop verison but for mobile there is also the option to their Pandora One paid subscription service. No word on when the policy will take in effect but keep an out on it.
